Café Mexicano, aka “Café de Olla” Simple, Brew-at-Home Coffee Recipe

A delicious hot cup of cafe de olla.

A fresh, hot cup of Cafe Mexicano (Cafe de Olla) topped with fragrant cinnamon.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup Coffee Cart Boys Kobean Espresso Dark Roast, medium to coarse grind

  • 1 quart water

  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks; one for cooking and one for garnish

  • One 3-inch piece orange peel

  • 5 ounces piloncillo* or 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar (more or less depending on your preference)

  • 1/2 tbsp Cloves (optional)

How to:

Marcela says…

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the coffee grounds with 1 quart water, the sugar, cinnamon and orange peel.

  2. Stir to combine and bring to slow boil, stirring to dissolve sugar.

  3. Remove from the heat and let steep, covered for 5 minutes.

  4. Strain, through a fine mesh strainer, into cups and serve.
